Much of the Christian faith is a walk in faith because not always can we see what is beyond or around the corner. I accept (by faith) things that happen trusting that God knows what is best (even when I don’t see the end result, i.e. sight).
But (or rather and) the point is quite general, beyond religion. So much of our approach to life (including scientific approaches) is led by faith and trust. So religious faith is not an alien, utterly different state of mind, just broader and deeper.
I would agree with you about some things in science being about faith. I also see some things that way historically. I have never seen or met Abe Lincoln for example and yet I trust that those who recorded his words and his picture were truthful. I mean, that picture could be of someone else. 🙂
