2 Corinthians 4:6

For God who said, “Out of darkness, light shine” has shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

I’ve decided to start cobbling together my own translations from the different English versions and the Greek on the Online Parallel Bible. Quite often, none of the English translations is quite how I want it.

The quote is from Genesis 1:3. Incidentally, the Welsh for “Let there be light” is “Bydded Goleuni” which I think has a nice ring to it. The Greek for the “Out of darkness, light shine” above is given as ἐκ σκότους φῶς λάμψει (ek skotos fos lampsei), which is also nice, but even better is just ἐκ σκότους φῶς (ek skotos fos) — “from darkness, light” — reminiscent of e pluribus unum.
