The people were amazed at his teaching, for, unlike the scribes, he taught with a note of authority.

His teaching was for all people and not for the “elite” spiritual people. He taught and backed up what He taught by a life of caring and one that was real.

I also take this to mean the scribes were just parroting what they’d read in the books; Jesus was speaking from personal experience — or even, just saying what he felt was true.
