John 21:18

I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.

  1. Suggested this is Jesus telling Peter how he will die. There will come a time when peter will be relying on others to get where he needs to go or to tell him where he is going. Tradition has it that peter was crucified upside down because he refused to be crucified as jesus was.

Yes, that is the next verse (John 21:19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”). On its own the 18th verse has a universal ring to it (I know that’s taking things out of context).
